For the first time, roxithromycin is covalently attached to single wall carbon nanotubes as a design of new strategy for the delivery of drugs. Treating SWNTs with 4-acetylaniline and subsequently with N-demethylroxithromycin and sulfur leads to the attachment of roxithromycin to SWNTs by a thioamide bond. Samples before and after treatment were characterized using Raman, FTIR, UV/Vis/NIR, TGA, SEM and TEM. This approach paves the way for a drug delivery and drug transporter in medicinal fields.
